Go for a picnic in Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is one of the largest urban parks in Europe and offers 1,800 acres of beautiful open space just 5 minutes away from ISI on the LUAS. Buy a picnic from the ISI café for under €5 and get out and enjoy the fresh air! You might even meet one of the many wild deer roaming the park, or if that isn’t enough wildlife drop into Dublin Zoo and see the Lions!

Phoenix Park is a 15 minute walk or 5 minutes on the LUAS from ISI.

Yes, plenty of people do it and survive smile! One of the most famous places for outdoor swimming in Dublin is called the Forty Foot in Sandycove. Join the many locals diving off the rocks and enjoying the clean and refreshing water of the Irish sea. Too cold to swim? Don’t worry there are plenty of other things to do like visiting the James Joyce Museum which is located right beside the swimming area. Sandycove is made famous in the book Ulysses by the writer and you can trace the steps of the main character Leopold Bloom around the area. Finish off a fun afternoon with a famous Teddy’s Ice Cream and you won’t be disappointed.

Sandycove is 25 minutes by DART from Tara Street.

Dubliners love to enjoy a drink outside whenever they get a chance and there are a number of nice pubs close to ISI where you can enjoy a drink Al Fresco. The Church and The Grand Social are less than a 5 minute walk from ISI and both have large outdoor seating areas. If you’re looking for a view, jump on the LUAS and head to The Marker Hotel. The hotel is 4 star so drinks aren’t cheap, but the view of the city and docklands is fantastic.

One of the great advantages of Dublin is that you can be in the wild outdoors in just 35 minutes from the city-centre on public transport. There are loads of great countryside walks to choose from but Howth has the added benefit of offering a superb view of Dublin bay and the city.
